In this week’s #tbt, Mom and Babies demonstrates skin-to-skin and breastfeeding in the “laid-back” position with a 3-week-old Baby Y.
Spending time skin-to-skin with a young baby helps him regulate his body temperature, releases oxytocin in both caregiver and baby, and encourages baby to seek out the breast and nurse. Skin-to-skin is recommended for all babies and is particularly beneficial to premature babies and newborns. Being skin-to-skin with a baby who is reluctant to nurse can also encourage him to come back to the breast.
