The Western Railway, in a first-of-its-kind initiative, launched a breastfeeding room at Bandra railway station on October 27th.
The facility was constructed, after the Railway Ministry issued a directive recently, asking all the zonal heads to provide feeding cubicles within the women’s waiting hall.
The initiative comes as a boon for thousands of mothers, who travel by the local trains of Mumbai, along with their children.
Meanwhile, the Central Railway and Western Railway are also planning to open breastfeeding rooms at local stations that usually handle long-distance trains.
These stations include Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Mumbai Central, Dadar, Matheran, Kalyan, Thane, Panvel, Lonavala and Igatpuri.
