August Is Breastfeeding Awareness Month (Houston Health Department, Nursing, WIC)

August is Breastfeeding Awareness Month. HTV visited the Houston Health Department’s WIC (Women, Infants and Children) program where Sara Garcia, a breasting coordinator with the City of Houston, explains some of the services and programs that are offered. This includes peer counseling and lactation specialists.

Did you know: The health department provides breastfeeding support, nutritional education, referrals and nutritious foods to approximately 54,000 qualifying Houston and Harris County families each month through its WIC program.
