Watch as Parents Magazine shows how to breastfeed in the straddle position! A baby who has reflux may need a vertical breastfeeding position to help keep food down. The straddle position is perfect for this. It is also good for those mothers who have fast milk flow, although new moms may not find it as easy. Lean back in a chair, holding your baby so that her belly touches yours. Her legs should straddle one of yours. Support her head with either hand so that her head can tilt back. Her chin should press into your breast, and her nose should be free for breathing. This is a good alternative to other nursing positions, especially once you and your baby start to get the hang of things!
