Dr Robyn Thompson, a midwife and breastfeeding consultant with over 40 years experience talks about the importance of having a good attachment for breastfeeding. Dr Robyn refers to it as Face to Breast Symmetry, where all four facial points (the nostrils, the chin and both cheeks) are in contact with the breast. This reduces the risk of sore nipples and other breastfeeding complications.

Dr Robyn was awarded a PHD where the main topic of question was “Why do so many women present with breastfeeding complications, particularly varying degrees of painful nipple trauma in the early postnatal period?”
