Join Lactation Consultant Jennifer Davidson, Progressive Mom Julie Hale, Lactation Specialist Wendy Haldeman, and Pediatrician Jay Gordon as they review how long a baby should be breastfeeding. The question of how long is a personal one. The American Academy of Pediatrics suggest a year because breastmilk is essential to a baby in their first year of life. They aren’t consuming solids until after six months, and even then they aren’t getting nearly as much nutrition as they would from breastmilk. Breastfeeding should be a mutually satisfying experience and is one that continues to benefit the child regardless of age.
