The average length of a breastfeed varies between mother and baby and also depends on the age of the baby. For a newborn and young baby, after the first 72 hours, it should take around an hour feeding from one breast with a rest and digest period, before going to the second breast.
Dr Robyn was awarded a PHD where the main topic of question was “Why do so many women present with breastfeeding complications, particularly varying degrees of painful nipple trauma in the early postnatal period?”
