Why Im still breastfeeding my 16 month old toddler//extended breastfeeding

BREASTFEEDING

I committed to breastfeed another year when Jessica turned 1. It’s a huge challenge as time goes on. There were a couple of important reasons I decided to do this and they happen to be natural benefits of extended breastfeeding.
1. Health/Immune system – Jessica’s was weak and I felt she needed more support. It does support a baby’s health in general. I believe its helping keep Jessica healthier than if I wasn’t breastfeeding.
2. Easier sleep – we were out of our house for about 2 months and it helped tremendously to be able to nurse Jessica when she woke up in the middle of the night since we had to be respectful of many others during the night – no extended crying. I just didn’t feel comfortable with it.
3. Bonding – whenever I ask Jessica if she wants milk she gets a huge smile on her face. I feel close to her and she seems to feel very close to me.
4. Confidence – Jessica is a very confident baby. She may have been born this way with a certain type of temperment but she had quite a bit of difficulty when she was a newborn up to several months old with her sleep, diaper changes, and being very clingy. I think that the extended breastfeeding has helped to feel less insecure as a baby/toddler.
5. Nutrition – I have been able to take large doses of glutathione to help with mold detox as well as higher doses probiotics and vitamin C, omega 3 oils, and many other supplements to support my own immune system. Jessica gets a little bit of all that I take and its much easier than giving her supplements through a tiny syringe.

Also a great video where she talks about similar benefits to extended breastfeeding
