How-to: Rugby Hold Breastfeeding Position

The Rugby Hold, also known as “the underarm or clutch position,” is very useful for smaller and premature babies – and can also help feeding after a C-section.

Women with larger breasts or inverted nipples, and mums of twins may find this position works well for them.
Pop baby in a hold underneath your arm so they are facing you, using pillows to help support your baby. Your baby’s feet should point in the direction of the sofa or chair. Their nose should be on the same level as your nipple . To make sure their legs have enough room to extend, you may want to put pillows behind your back also.
