From baby latching correctly, to having an adequate milk supply, all the way over to those famous cluster feedings, breastfeeding can, no doubt, be a struggle. But what happens when you think you’re baby isn’t putting on enough weight ??
As a breastfeeding mom of two, I’ve struggled with all of the above, but perhaps the most stressful and anxiety inducing was my baby’s weight gain. My baby’s are breastfed on demand and I have no problem with my milk supply, in fact I have an over supply of milk, however I had no idea how much my baby was drinking in any given session and even I fell prey to those nagging doubts, “What if my baby isn’t getting enough?”
Those doubts were further fuelled by doctors and nurses, who want to measure and quantify everything in our child’s development. When it was suggested that my baby wasn’t putting on enough weight (even though she was gaining weight), according to certain percentiles, my doctor went so far as to “strongly” suggest supplementing with formula. I was heartbroken.
I’m here to share part of my breastfeeding story and to give you words of encouragement in your own breastfeeding journey.
