HOW I GOT RID OF MY BLOCKED MILK DUCT BREASTFEEDING STRUGGLES
In this video I talk about how after lying down, I think I squashed my breast tissue which caused me to have a blocked milk duct. But when I felt it, I didn’t feel a lump but it felt like I had pulled a muscle down the side and all around the nipple and deep inside close to that area felt so painful. I felt shivery and cold at one stage in the night then woke up boiling hot. I was worried that it could turn it mastitis, so I fed the baby on that side as much as possible. I also had a hot bath, dangled my breast and expressed a little and massaged where it was painful which relieved it a bit. I hand expressed on the other side a little bit because I didn’t want to get engorged on that side because I was getting the baby to have milk on the side that was sore. It took a good full day for the baby to help remove the block but I feel so much better now. I thought to share this as even though this is my 3rd breastfeeding journey and I have breastfed a toddler twice, both breastfeeding past 2 years old, that I would not face struggles like this, but it can happen to any one.
Whilst I am a qualified breastfeeding peer support volunteer and breastfeeding Mother with over 5 years experience, I am not a Doctor or midwife, o affiliated with the NHS, so if you have any problems or concerns with feeding your baby, please consult your Doctor or other professional.
